Wedding!!

So its finally here, Mr Lashes and I have decided on a date, well tentatively. We are looking at the 25th of August 2012.

It will be in Nigeria, somewhere on the Island and will have 250 guests (verrryyy small by our family's standards). I was considering getting a wedding planner seeing as I don't have anyone who can run around for me but the cost is ridiculous.

So my darling people, I need help. Any ideas for venues (on the island) and their cost? Where can I get decorators (will it really cost me half a million to decorate a hall???) Drinks Stand? Small Chops? Hostesses? Colour Schemes? Basically everything!

I REALLY need help!!

  1. yayyy!!! congratulations dear.
Island venues are reaaallly expensive. If you really want a bargain island venue maybe you should consider the church hall if ur church is on the island. Thats what i did and the yeye church ppl still charged us N260K.
a gud deco will will be nothin less than N300k. My dear, wedding is now big business in naija. I paid 'service charges' sotayyy vex make smoke comot for my ears. I dont know when that one started. Good luck

  2. Thanks Kiky!

we are Muslims, so don't have a church to go to! I don't mind paying up to N650K for the hall, N300k is just ridiculous for decoration but if that's how they do it, na wa.

    Service Charge? for what again????

I can tell this is going to be a very long 10 months!! ~x(

  4. Congratulations.
Do you want an open space or a hall. I think most of the halls on the Island are pretty much expensive. But if you are looking at an open space which is way cheaper, you can try out City Hall and maybe any school's ground.

  10. Yes dear. I am sorry to have to confirm it, but you may likely have to spend as much as 500k to get a decent decoration job done. As for renting halls on the Island, you'll need a solid million or two.

All the best in your wedding planning

  11. lol, A9JA, thanks!

Thanks 'Lara, because it the rainy season, I think we are better off using a hall, I still cant believe the cost!!

Amin, Miss Toinlicious, that's not the theme of the wedding, I'm planning on using chocolate brown and cream for our traditional outfits though, there's just something about it that screams rich. ;;)

Thanks 9JAfoodie and Miss Ngo :-*

Abby, you're my wedding mate, we can obsess over weddings together! Congratulations hun!

Mimi B, wow, thats scary, its not even going to be a big wedding but I've heard from a few people that unless I want to get married on the mainland, I should be prepared to drop that amount. Thing is we are based on the island, I don't want too much traffic to obstruct the day.

Thanks you all so much for dropping by and for your warm wishes.

  12. AWwwww Congrats dear!!!
Getting married on the island will def be expensive. I live on the island when i'm not in the UK so i know first-hand that things are not the same as on the mainland truly.

  14. Congratulations my dear,i hope everything works out pretty well. Halls are pretty expensive but i think if you get a notable events planner you could get a good deal. I could recommend a band though am sure they will make your day.....chizys-spyware.blogspot.com

  15. Weddings on the island. Hold 1m for hall. My hall is in VGC and I paid 500k. as for decorator. Ur wedding is small (250 people) you shouldn’t pay more than 200k, except if the hall is really big which would cost more in drapes. I’m planning for 500 and my decorator is chaeging 250k, that includes, chair cover, tie backs, table cover, table decoration, building the stage, couples sofa, drapes, walk away and stage rugs, pedestals for the walk way, lights, and flower arch. So list out the things you want and negotiate from there. Try out three or four vendors to compare work and prices.
Color schemes, mix your favourite color or his or both and google it to see if it matches

  19. @ Beautiful, na so I hear am o, I'm aware of how much more expensive things are now but I still think its a rip off!

@ Adiya, your good thoughts are help enough, thank you :-)

@Doll, thanks a million, your emails have been so much help :-)

@ Chizy, thanks! The average quote I've been getting from wedding planners is 600k, thats like food for 300 people! I'm letting go of the band idea, seeing as it will be music for my parents, I'd like recommendations for a good dj though!

@ Onose, Thanks and welcome to my little world!

@Inthemidst, Thanks, your well wishes are good enough, AMEN O!

Thank you all for dropping by.
